-LD 11 Coordinator was not able to attend the Zoom meeting. -Coordinates across the state to elect Dems all across the ballot and focus is on electing Mark Kelly to the senate. Once the primary is done the focus will be on local, state and Biden elections. -Everything is done virtually. Strategy - Voter Engagement with Dems and Independents. - Changing the Field Margin – The number by which someone wins an election.PEVL is the focus. - Change the face of the electorate by hosting community events, hosting a weekend of action at the end of the month which are virtual events; virtual shabbat, virtual debrief (Miranda conducts), weekly newsletter, virtual coffees, virtual workshops and a new action for Spanish speakers Cafecito.
Virtual Volunteering – English and Spanish - Calls from home for PEVL (Permanent Early Voting List) - Recruitment calls for GOTV (Get Out The Vote) - Sending text (textbanking) on a limited basis; prefer phone banking - Volunteers to manage social media (e.g. Facebook) - Volunteers to write OP Eds for the Newsletter - Volunteers to conduct phone bank training and workshops
Community Engagement - Direct voter contact with phone banking which increases voter turnout. - Work with LD chairpersons and the Democratic party to eliminate duplication and redundancy of effort. - Coordinate with field organizers.
Questions: Mission for Arizona is funded by a number of organizations including Arizona Dems, National Democratic party and others. Dana relayed information on Arizona Ground Game working with Mission for Arizona.
Karen Harris and Misty Atkins presented information on Phone and Text Banking
-Why phone or text bank.You can do either from home. - Easy to use with some training. - Mission for Arizona will train and provide lots of support when you get started. - Karen has used Thru Text and found it easy to use. - Misty discussed phone bank training which Mission for Arizona provides on Wednesday and Saturday at 12pm.You can register for training at www.mobilize.us/missionforaz.com
Dana discussed the importance of getting involved during the Covid-19 crisis.There are many opportunities which will be posted on ITAA website.Dana will also send information to members.
ITAA steering committee has decided to endorse candidates on the Federal level.Will not at this time endorse on the State and local level.Endorsement requires a 2/3 approval vote by the membership.The vote commenced as follows:
President – Joe Biden Sally Simmons motioned to approve the endorsement of Joe Biden.Lois Postil seconded.The vote was unanimous at 27 in favor, 0 opposed. U.S. Senate – Mark Kelly Sally Simmons motioned to approve the endorsement of Mark Kelly.Margo Nichols seconded.The vote was unanimous at 27 in favor, 0 opposed. U.S. Congressional District1 – Tom O’Halleran versus Eva Putzova Jan Counts motioned to approve the endorsement of Tom O’Halleran.Beth Smith seconded.The vote was unanimous for Tom O’Halleran at 27 in favor, 0 opposed.Eva Putzova zero votes. U.S. Congressional District 2 – Ann Kirkpatrick versus Peter Quilter Sally Simmons motioned to approve the endorsement of Ann Kirkpatrick.Di Alexander seconded.The vote was Kirkpatrick 25 in favor, 2 abstained, zero for Peter Quilter. U.S. Congressional District 3 – Raul Grijalva Sally Simmons motioned to approve the endorsement of Raul Grijalva.Karen Harris seconded.The vote was 26 in favor with 1 abstained.
Dana explained the significance of local Indivisible organizations voting to endorse candidates and the impact it has on how the National Indivisible organization endorses candidates.
Misty Atkins reported on the post card writing group.Postcards are focused on GOTV and will be mailed in October.The initiative is concentrating on LD11 first and may expand to additional LD’s. Volunteers interested in participating can visit the website, Indivisibletucson.org or contact Misty directly.Misty’s information is listed on the website.
Margo Nichols discussed the Letters to the Editor group and will continue into the fall.Contact Eileen Hollowell if you are interested in participating.
Helen Herziger with Indivisible and Strong will conduct phone bank training on Thursday, July 9th at 5:30.Dana will send information to members along with additional volunteer opportunities.
