Indivisible Tucson Midweek Announcements
Nov. 13, 2025 1. Important note from the State Action Team: The previous edition of the ITAA State Action Team newsletter (no. 6, Nov, 6, 2025) included a brief profile of LD17 Representative Kevin Volk and provided a link to his blog summarizing his views on a few successes of the 2025 AZ legislative session. Volk followed that article with an insightful and searing assessment of the utter failure of the Republican-controlled Legislature to take any action to address the real priority concerns of AZ citizens, for example on water security or education funding. That second article — “Part II: The Bad, and The Ugly” — is available at https://www.ld17azdemocrats.org/blog/kevin-volks-message-to-ld17-1 Please take a moment to glance at this important content! 2. New campaign from Indivisible National: It's time to turn the page on failed Democratic leadership. We're launching the largest Democratic primary program in Indivisible's history. https://www.indivisible2026.org/ The purpose is to mount primary challenges against do-nothing Democrats in safe blue districts. This campaign will target Democrats who are treating the current regime as "politics as usual" instead of as the emergency that it is. "Right now, we’re talking with our grassroots network to understand where they want to see this fight go. Indivisible groups are the leaders of this movement, and they are not backing down. Decisions on primaries will be guided by them. Victories over the status quo will be powered by them. And our new leaders will be accountable to them." 3. Upcoming Events - Fri. Nov. 18, 9am - Pima County Board of Supervisors important vote Message from our friend Phineas Anderson: Hi All, Several months ago I submitted the resolution below to both the City Council (March 4) and Bd. of Supervisors (April 1). I won't go into the reasons for the delay, but finally, the Bd will be voting on the resolution at their meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 18, 9am at the Pima Co. admin building at 130 W. Congress (there is some movement with the Mayor and City Council, but later).. I would like to get a good number of people to attend and solicit your help in doing that (maybe you can come too with some friends!) The resolution is now before 86 jurisdictions in 23 states. My purpose in writing the resolution was simply to get our elected officials behind our efforts of protesting Trump and his overreach and by doing so, giving encouragement/support to those actively working diligently, like yourselves, to resist. So come and encourage others to come to the El Presidio Plaza area (underground parking available) where city and county buildings are located between 8:30 and 8:45am (you have to go through a security check) to hear the discussion (I and a few others will say something). The meeting begins at 9am (not sure where we are on the agenda). Thanks for your help! Phin PROCLAMATION OF THE PIMA COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF TUCSON, ARIZONA No Executive Overreach - Supporting the U.S. Constitution, Defending our Democracy Whereas, the Pima County Board of Supervisors of Tucson, Arizona believes nothing is more sacred to our Democracy than the U.S. Constitution; Whereas, the Pima County Board of Supervisors feels an essential part of our Constitution are the first three articles, establishing the three “separate but equal” branches of the United States government; Whereas, the Pima County Board of Supervisors, has witnessed the consolidation of power in the Executive branch by the current President through the following actions: the revocation of birthright citizenship; freezing of federal spending approved by Congress; shuttering of federal agencies, generally demonstrating a pattern of usurping the duties of the legislative branch; violating due process and civil service protections for federal employees and other persons; detaining and deporting people based on political views; disobeying judicial mandates; politicizing law enforcement and the military; chilling debate by threatening legislators not loyal to him; and generally expressing contempt for the separation of powers, freedom of speech, and the rule of law; Now Therefore, be it resolved that the Pima County Board of Supervisors believe that those elected to office have a duty to protect the Constitution and must act with urgency; Now Therefore, be it resolved that the Pima County Board of Supervisors strongly urge the United States Congressional delegation of the State of Arizona, to take the lead in pressing their colleagues to stand up and reclaim their Constitutional duty to be an equal partner in the running of the U.S. government, and work hand in hand with the judicial branch to see that the Constitution is not trespassed upon by the Executive branch. ************************ Don't forget to keep tabs on the "Don't BuyIt" campaign on their Substack: https://dontbuyittucson.substack.com/ That's it until Sunday! -- Margrit of ITAA Copyright © 2025 ITAA Inc., All rights reserved. |
