The Boycott and Build Team promotes using our dollars to vote. We cannot wait for elections!
Connect the dots! We the consumers are part of both the problem and the solution. For too long, we've been buying into the system the oligarchs have built to enrich themselves at our expense.
We must collectively stop supporting businesses that use their profits to weaken our democracy.
We must actively build a just and sustainable economy by consciously spending and investing each dollar.
WE THE CONSUMERS must boycott businesses that refuse to stand up for US and build up businesses who support the democratic principles we value.
Wake up America! Civilization calls every man, woman and child! by James Montgomery Flagg This historic WWI poster depicting America sleeping as the sinister storm clouds roll in to threaten our freedoms sadly still feels very applicable today.
We the people control corporate wealth. How? By choosing to either buy what they are selling or not.
Everything sold has hidden costs, including enriching those who may use their wealth to destroy democratic ideals.
Are convenience, cheap prices, and instant gratification worth losing our democracy? Wake up and join us in a resounding NO!
Join us in peaceful individual redirection of our monetary resources. It is equally as powerful as our peaceful vote at the ballot box!
Jeff Bezos/Amazon donated $1 million to Trump's inauguration and loyally stood at that event. He also paid an unheard of $40 million for Melania Trump's documentary, bought the rights to Trump's "Apprentice" series to air on Amazon Prime, and the list goes on.
Target caved to Trump's pressures to cancel DEI initiatives and voluntarily abandoned their own DEI efforts which they had previously proudly stood behind.
Avelo Airlines is the first commercial airline to sign a deportation charter contract with ICE -- unmarked, secretive deportation flights, flying immigrants who have no guarantee of due process to countries they may not even be from.
Sadly, these are just a few of the businesses who seem more than willing to bend a knee to the Trump administration in hopes of currying favors to further enrich themselves at our expense.
Stop feeding the growing oligarchy!
Businesses who have said loudly and clearly that their profits, as well as favorable tax and business conditions, are more important than our democratic values do not deserve our business.
Your dollars matter. Spend them wisely!
What does "Build" look like?
Hope sees the invisible, feels the intangible, and achieves the impossible. --Helen Keller
For years, advocates of non-violent resistance have utilized collective economic power to create positive change.
Our team advocates using the boycott of specific businesses to:
Weaken the wealth and power of those who enrich themselves at the expense of our democracy.
Pressure businesses to change their ways if they expect to regain our business.
Influence those in power, often the elected officials businesses donate to, to meet specific demands.
Boycotting alone does not go far enough.
We must also actively work to build a fair, sustainable, and just economic system that works for us all.
How can we begin to build that economy? Here are just a few of the many ways to start:
Reclaim the power of our dollars by cutting back on unnecessary spending and redirecting those funds to build a strong local community.
Shop locally whenever possible and limit discretionary spending at big box stores and multinational corporations.
Consider supporting local institutions and non-profits that help the community thrive.
Move your money from a corporate bank to a local credit union or community bank.
Find ways to support a budding, local entrepreneur in opening their business.
Ensure your money, including retirements funds, is invested in companies that reflect your values.
Lend a helping hand to family or neighbors who may be struggling as the impacts of this administration begin to take hold.
When you do shop, ensure you are supporting only those businesses that match your values.
Lobby your federal, state and local officials to strengthen and enforce anti-trust laws.
When we all work collectively, we will:
Create strong, resilient communities.
Protect and build a functioning, equitable democracy.
Help raise the standard of living for every American, not just the ultra-wealthy.
One of the easiest and most powerful ways to take action is to start voting with your dollars today!
Do not fall victim to the belief that your few dollars here or there do not matter. Collectively, they have a huge impact!
Above all, do not lose hope! None of us can afford to sit on the sidelines any longer.
